Spinal Injection
Spinal injections are sometimes used to alleviate pain that comes from sources within or around the spine. Injections can also be used to confirm the cause of referred pain coming from the spine. To maximize the effectiveness of a spinal injection, the medication within that injection must get into the accurate location. Using X-ray guidance, the effectiveness of the injection can be enhanced.
The various types of spinal injections include:
Epidural Steroid Injections
This treatment is given to patients who report low back, neck or related leg pain or arm pain. The pain arises because the spinal nerves become inflated due to the narrowing of the passage. The epidural steroid injection reduces the inflammation associated with such narrowing. Different types of epidural steroid injections include interlaminar, transforaminal, and caudal injections.
Trigger Point Injections
Painful knots are formed when muscles do not relax, irritating the nerves around them and causing referred pain felt in other parts of the body. Trigger point injections are designed to target medicine directly into specific muscle knots to treat these painful areas.
Sacroiliac Joint Injections
When a patient suffers from pain in the low back, buttock and leg, Sacroiliac Joint Injections are often useful. This treatment injects a steroid medication directly into the sacroiliac joint to help relieve pain.
